Is Life a Little Too Stressful at the Moment?
Once a week, set aside 20 minutes to sit in a hot bath containing a handful of Epsom salts, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, and a half-cup of baking soda. This combination draws out toxins, balances your pH levels, and lowers stress-related hormones.
And just the act of taking some time to relax doesn’t hurt either! I love to light candles and make this time a special spa date for myself.
Itchy, Irritating Mosquito bite?
No problem! Rub a bar of dry soap on the bite to get instant relief. If you’ve just eaten a banana, rubbing the inside of a banana peel on the bite also works like magic. What if you’re hiking in the middle of the wilderness? Pat a glob of moist mud onto the bite to help relieve the irritation.
Opps! You Burned Your Hand While Working in the Kitchen.
Grab that jar of raw, unpasteurized honey. Here is an excerpt from my blog, Products You Should Know about: Raw Honey vs. Processed Honey
Raw, unpasteurized honey has been used throughout history for a vast array of medical purposes, which are now beginning to be documented in modern medicine. In many countries, including Germany and France, doctors prescribe the use of honey as the first line of defense against burns and wounds. Research has confirmed honey’s ability to act as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, as well as its antiviral and antifungal properties.
From the American Apitherapy Society: “In a 1991 study, honey was compared with silver sulfadiazine, the standard treatment for burn patients, and the results were astounding. Only 8% of patients treated with honey developed infections, compared to 92% of those treated with silver sulfadiazine.”
Summer Sometimes Means Sunburns
No matter how careful you are, sometimes you end up with a painful burn. To sooth sunburned skin, add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath water and soak for relief. After the bath, you can gently apply a light coating of coconut oil to further relieve pain.
We Typically Store Our Toothbrushes in the Bathroom. What???
We all do this. But, when you think about it, it’s not the greatest environment for something we put in our mouth.
You can easily disinfect your toothbrush by soaking the bristles in hydrogen peroxide, to kill staph bacteria and other germs common to the bathroom. If you’ve just gotten over a cold or the flu, it’s a good idea to toss the old toothbrush and start fresh with a new one.
Once again Indy, bravo! I love these tips and tricks. I will be taking my bath with these natural ingredients now. And I always love the honey tips. “A broad spectrum antibiotic?” Are you kidding me? Awesome! By the way, we found the best unpasteurized raw honey at Trader Joe’s. I really like the Farmer’s Market honey too but can’t always make it Thursday morning to our local market. Anyway, you’re the best and thanks for the great tips!
So happy to hear you enjoyed this, Leslie! And thank you for sharing the info about the Trader Joe’s honey. I’ll definitely check it out. :0)
Good tips, all. Everyone should live next door to you. 🙂
Thanks, Mike! :0)
