I discovered a most clever piece of equipment this last weekend and couldn’t wait to share it with all of you.

It’s called a Fish Bone Knotless Gear Tie. The name says it all. It looks like a fish skeleton and you use it in place of tying knots in cord.

Although my Eagle Scout hubby knows how to tie a variety of solid knots, my one accomplishment is a simple macramé knot (square knot) – so these Gear Ties are extremely attractive to me. There are lots of different ways to wrap the cord and achieve a tight knot. It’s easy and quick. Different size Fish Bones (and metals) work for different sizes of rope, cord or string, and support a variety of weights.

The best part is that once I’m done with the cord, I don’t have the hassle of trying to pry those knots loose again. Simply unwrap the cord and I’m done!

I can think of all kinds of uses: for hiking (securing extra gear a backpack) and camping (setting up a clothesline, anchoring guide lines for tents or tarp shelters). The Piranha gear tie even doubles as a bottle opener! Or you can use ropes and Fish Bone ties for organizing the garage – or tying off gear on your truck. Or get artistic and make a paracord bracelet with the Fish Bone as the decorative tie. Let your imagination loose!

And here’s the icing on the cake. I love it when I can find products made here in the USA. What’s even nicer is these are manufactured in Huntington Beach, CA.

I encourage you to check out their website and watch the how-to videos.

Hubby and I will be trying these out during an upcoming road /camping trip. I’ll let you know how we used them and how they worked. I think they will definitely come in handy!
